Poland delays tax on shale gas until 2020

Poland plans to postpone the collection of taxes on shale gas production by 5 years and to improve its regulatory framework, to attract investors in shale exploration.

The law on hydrocarbon taxes will come into force in 2015 but taxes will be collected only in 2020. Poland has granted more than 100 exploration permits, but the last revision of resources and the announcement that explorers would be required to take a state-owned company as a production partner contributed to the reluctance of new investors; earlier this months, Talisman decided to pull out of Poland and Marathon Oil is seeking to sell its 11 licenses.
