ABEE expands battery production in North Macedonia

Belgium’s Avesta Battery and Energy Engineering (ABEE) has launched a major expansion into Southeast Europe, beginning with the construction of an electric car battery factory in Kicevo, North Macedonia.

The project’s first phase involves a €10 million investment and the creation of 200 jobs, with plans to scale to €40 million and 600 jobs in later phases. Annual exports are expected to grow from €50 million initially to €500 million within seven years. The facility is slated for completion by 2025. In addition, ABEE is ´ investing €1.1 billion in Bulgaria over the next three to five years, including a research base in Plovdiv and a lithium-ion battery factory in Stara Zagora. The company is also developing a €1.4 billion battery plant in Galati, Romania, which is expected to create up to 8,000 jobs. These initiatives reinforce ABEE's commitment to advancing battery technologies and strengthening the electric vehicle supply chain across the region.
