Serbia advances renewable energy with 9.75 MW solar plant

Serbia is making progress towards its renewable energy targets with the development of a 9.75 MW solar plant in Kostolac. The Petka PV project, built on an 11.6 hectare former mining site, is the first solar initiative of state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije.

The Petka PV project, built on an 11.6 hectare former mining site, is the first solar initiative of state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Srbije. Installation of the solar panels is underway and is expected to be completed by mid-February 2025, with grid connection planned for the first quarter of 2025. The project is part of a broader strategy to improve Serbia's energy security, which includes plans for six additional solar plants totalling 1GW of capacity, as well as associated battery storage of up to 200MW. With investment in renewable energy growing significantly, this is an important step in Serbia's energy transition and efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio.
