Green light for CfD scheme in Romania

Romania has introduced the Contracts for Difference (CfD) mechanism for renewable energy, which will accelerate the transition to a low-carbon energy supply.

According to Government Decision no. 318/2024, the Ministry of Energy has approved a EUR 3 billion state aid scheme under Regulation no. 1120/2024. The aim of the scheme is to conclude CfD contracts for 5,000 MW of renewable energy projects (2,500 MW onshore wind and 2,500 MW solar PV) by the end of 2025. The CfD auctions will be conducted in two phases - the first should be completed by the end of 2024 (1,000 MW wind, 500 MW solar PV) and the second by the third quarter of 2025 (1,500 MW wind, 2,000 MW solar PV).
