Croatia awards 413.5 MW of PV in renewable energy auction

The Croatian Energy Market Operator (HROTE) has announced the results of the renewable energy auction held in April.

The tender was divided into second auction rounds for PV, wind and hydropower projects with a capacity of 607 MW. Croatia has introduced market premiums to support renewable energy projects since mid-2020.  The HROTE awarded 413.5 MW of PV capacity and 4.5 MW of hydropower capacity in the tender process, and no wind project was selected. The Croatian authorities initially assessed 144 projects with a total capacity of 713 MW for the auction. In the first phase, market premiums were awarded to projects with an installed capacity of more than 1 MW each, including 350 MW for solar, 60 MW for wind and 7.25 MW for hydro. In the second phase of the tender, premiums were awarded to solar projects with a capacity of between 200 kW and 6 MW and to wind farms with a capacity of between 200 kW and 18 MW.
