Renalfa IPP successfully commissions first utility-scale BESS in Bulgaria

Renalfa IPP has announced the commissioning of its first 25 MW/55 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Bulgarian town of Razlog, in the south-west of the country.

It is linked to a 33 MWp photovoltaic system and connected to the transmission grid. The BESS will allow storage of peak production and arbitration in the electricity market. The project is the first major investment in electricity storage in Bulgaria and one of the first BESS of this size in Eastern Europe.
