Estonia and Latvia are preparing for decoupling from the Russian grid in 2025
The countries therefore need to be able to regulate their grids independently, with BESS projects playing a crucial role by providing a large part of the required services. The BESS will provide high-speed backup and automatically activate frequency regulation reserves at a much lower cost than conventional power plants currently do. Projects are co-financed by EU funds - Tume project is supported by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and the Rezneke system by RePowerEu.
