Kosovo plans to hold its first wind farm auction in 2024
The Kosovar Ministry of Energy plans to open an auction for a wind farm project next year, the first in the country. This is expected to increase the interest of private investors in the sector. The Kosovo government will co-finance the project for a 150 MW wind farm to reduce investment risk. The goal is to attract private investors with experience in building and operating such farms, the Ministry of Energy announced in a statement on its website. The project is in line with Kosovo's energy strategy, which calls for 32% of the country's energy production to come from renewable sources by 2031, up from 6% currently. Earlier this year, Kosovo opened its first solar power auction, awarding a 30-year concession contract to build and operate a 100 MW solar plant and a 15-year power purchase agreement. Construction costs are estimated at about 75 million euros. In July, the ministry announced that more than 140 companies had expressed interest in the auction. However, a winner has not yet been announced.
