Axpo and Kolektor sign first financial PPA in Slovenia
The groundbreaking deal, the first corporate finance PPA in Slovenia, was concluded with the Kolektor Group, a global supplier of specialized industrial products based in Slovenia. Under the 10-year contract, Axpo will secure the long-term fixed price for up to 0.2 terawatt hours (TWh) of energy for Kolektor Mobility's subsidiary in Slovenia. Kolektor Mobility manufactures components and systems for electric vehicles. The subsidiary Kolektor sETup d.o.o. will take care of the physical energy supply.
Călin Raţis, Head of Regional Origination at Axpo, says: "We are one of the few companies able to support such a novel business in the region, leveraging our decades of expertise, our creditworthiness, our extensive renewable energy portfolio and, last but not least, our proximity to customers. We will continue to provide innovative and tailored energy products and services that ultimately help drive the energy transition in the region."
The contract marks an important milestone for Kolektor sETup, which has established itself as a leading PPA enabler and expert offering a full range of services to energy producers and consumers. These include legal advice, market expertise and knowledge, physical energy security, balancing services and expert aggregation functions.
Commenting on the agreement, Aleš Koželjnik, Managing Director at Kolektor sETup, said, "This is the first-ever corporate finance PPA and a major turning point for the country's renewable energy sector. This groundbreaking achievement underscores our commitment to the green energy transition by developing forward-looking solutions and securing a better energy future for our customers."
Igor Bogataj, Purchasing Director at Kolektor Mobility, added: "The past year has been really turbulent for companies buying energy on the open market. Energy costs suddenly became one of our main cost drivers. So signing a permanent long-term purchase agreement was extremely important for us to ensure medium- to long-term price stability for electricity from renewable sources."
For Axpo, this contract follows several other important contracts already signed in Southeast Europe this year. These include the first-ever long-term PPAs for wind power in Croatia and Serbia, which added 216 MW to the company's regional renewable energy portfolio.
Vladimir Djordjevic, senior originator at Axpo, says: "We are pleased to see more and more companies in the region implementing their sustainability goals. Long-term corporate finance PPAs provide price stability, which can be a key differentiator for a company's financial performance given the current tight and volatile markets."
Axpo has a strong presence in Central and Southeastern Europe. Experts in several countries - including Poland, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Greece - offer customers a wide range of services, including electricity and gas supply, energy trading and renewable energy certificates. The Budapest office is the latest addition to Axpo's regional network.
