EU Council adopts €100 million assistance to North Macedonia
The Council of the EU has decided to provide €100 million in macro-financial assistance to North Macedonia. The assistance will help support North Macedonia's economic stabilization and substantial reform agenda and will be provided in the form of loans. The macro-financial assistance accompanies a 24-month support program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) of up to 530 million euros. The assistance is provided in two equal installments and is subject to clearly defined economic policy and financial conditions that focus on structural reforms and sound public finances. A precondition for the granting of macro-financial assistance is compliance with effective democratic mechanisms, including a multiparty system and the rule of law, as well as ensuring respect for human rights.
