Secretariat to track CBAM readiness of the Energy Community
On July 5, 2023, the Secretariat released its CBAM Readiness Tracker, which provides comprehensive insights into Parties' progress toward decarbonization. In particular, the tracker focuses on progress toward meeting the conditions for CBAM exemption, specifically the implementation of an emissions trading system (ETS) by 2030, at least for electricity. It also monitors progress on the electricity market and renewable energy development, implementation of the energy efficiency first principle, and compliance with Parties' climate commitments related to the Paris Agreement. A special section of the tracker focuses on developments in Ukraine. The text also includes key findings on reducing the carbon footprint, creating an electricity market fit for the energy transition, promoting the use of renewables, and achieving a decarbonized energy future.
