EU approves plan for Czech Republic to support firms affected by heat energy costs
The European Commission has approved a Czech program worth about €718 million to support companies affected by the increased cost of thermal energy related to Russia's war against Ukraine. The support will be provided in limited amounts and in the form of rebates. Thermal energy producers can apply for support based on the increase in production costs in the period from February 1, 2022, to December 31, 2023, compared to the reference period from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Public support is subject to conditions to limit undue distortions of competition between suppliers, including safeguards to ensure that the benefits of the measure are passed on to the final beneficiaries. The Commission has found that the Czech program complies with the conditions of the Temporary Crisis and Transitional Framework.
