The Slovak government presents the first climate protection law ever
The Slovak government has presented the country's first climate protection law, which for the first time enshrines in law the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. The law also sets medium-term targets for reducing emissions at the state, regional, city or company level. Citizens have the option of filing climate lawsuits against the state if it fails to meet its obligations to achieve climate goals. The law also creates a Council for Climate, which has the power to monitor individual ministries' implementation of climate plans and impose sanctions if necessary. NGOs welcome the law, but have concerns about the reduction targets for individual sectors.
