Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions fell by 23% on 1990 levels
Among the countries who may not meet their 2020 targets are Belgium, Ireland Luxembourg, Austria, France and UK.
Some Eastern European countries made good progress in their greenhouse gas reductions partly due to the closing down of heavy industries.
Emissions in Romania fell by 56% and in Lithuania by almost 60%. Among the reasons that caused the overall reductions are economic recession, climate policies, efficiency measures and a warm 2014.
