Slovakia: Plans to Phase-Out Coal Mining Subsidies in 2023

In recent news, the government of the Slovak Republic announced plans to end subsidies for domestic coal mining operations by 2023

The government has signalled that is will submit an action plan in due course detailing the plans. Approximately EUR 100 million are spent yearly to support the privately-owned company Hornonitrianske Bane Prievidza (HBP), which produced 1.8 Mt of lignite in 2017.
